I have been on an unmeaning-full hiatus from my blog. I have been very busy with a new position at Southern Oregon University, teaching video production in the EMDA Department. The title ‘Professor Hail’ still hasn’t quite set in, but with two more terms of teaching, I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

Now on to the important stuff. 2012 was a great year for business and 2013 looks like it will be even better. My main focus will be completing my fly-fishing film. After spending time in Montana, I ran into a cinematic mind block. The direction of the film was completely spiraling out of control. I decided to take a break for a few months. I’m very pleased to announce that the film is back on track and will be even better than I had originally anticipated. At this point Levi Drake, my partner in this project, will take the lead role and tell his story of finding a relationship between science and fly-fishing. Along the way, he develops the emotional connection that I myself have for fly-fishing.

It took about a month to look over, edit and turn a few hours of footage from Montana into a teaser trailer. I wanted to produce something that showed our sponsors, friends, and fans that we are still, if not more serious about completing this project. This teaser will be dropping next week, and I’m very excited to hear feedback and hope that you all are just as excited as we are. So until then, I’m leaving you with a screen shot of the new edit. Also, I’ll be publishing a whole post on our experiences in Montana, so stay tuned for that.

I have been working a lot with Travel Medford here in Southern Oregon lately. We got together to produce this short commercial about “Great Performances Daily”. It was shot at Dancin Winery by Jacksonville, Oregon. Had a blast directing, shooting, and editing this piece, maybe I deserve my own “Great Performance,” segment like this? haha just jokes! I’m looking forward to producing more performances like this in the future.

My fellow friend and new fly-fisherman, Levi Drake, have talked of many fishing trips and stories from past years. He is an avid angler having experience in Alaska, Northern California, and now Southern Oregon. I recently taught him the art of fly-fishing, and just as my dad and I, the rest was history. He is quickly becoming an outstanding fly-fisherman with a crave for beautiful scenery and beautiful trout.

Over the past few months we have been chatting over a few brews about a trip to Montana that we would both love to take. I’m proud to say that is no longer just an idea, but that it will actually happen. I have not been back to the state in over seven years, and to be able to return to familiar waters gets me as excited like a 16 year old on prom night. We have both talked a lot about how it would be fun to document our travels. As our date for our journey creeps closer, I have come to realize that it may be another seven years till I have a chance to return. The thought of a documentary has now become a necessity. My plan is to produce my first documentary about a lifestyle I have lived for almost 20 years. It will be a true pleasure to capture the true beauty, excitement, and sentimental moments that fly-fishing brings to one’s mind and soul.

Levi and I have talked about what we would both like to see in this documentary. We will be filming a lot through out our experiences in Montana, but we thought it would be great to have some shots of the local Southern Oregon waters we have grown to love. We recently fished the North Fork Of The Little Butte Creek, and we both immediately fell in love with this watershed. The scenery was breath taking, and the aggressive native Brook Trout made for an amazing Sunday get-away. I took a few shots on my phone to use as early stage of story boarding. The low light in the morning creates a beautiful warm and dramatic scene that will be a blast to shoot. I’ve attached this photos below.

I will be sure to keep updating the creative process as it comes.

We have developed a seperate blog to keep our thoughts organized and try to gain a fan base. We will be posting both on my blog and the short film’s blog through out the production stages. Keep your eyes open for a trailer!
